Barbat and Banjol are two smaller tourist settlements in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia. They are situated along the southwest coast of the island of Rab, opposite the island Dolin across the Barbat channel. From the ferry terminal Mišnjak, Barbat is the first settlement on the island of Rab, followed by Banjol which continues to the town of Rab. They are stretched along nearly 5 kilometres of coastline that has many beautiful small beaches and piers for small fishing boats. Administratively they belong to the town of Rab and the two together have about 3,500 inhabitants. Both places have a long history of settlement, as well as the entire island of Rab. In Barbat are found the remains of an early Christian fort St. Cosmas and Damian from the 6th century. The residents of Barbat and Banjol have traditionally been engaged in agriculture, sheep farming and fishing, and from the second half of the last century tourism has been intensively developing.
Today the locals generally offer high-quality and comfortable apartments, rooms and holiday homes inside their private family houses. In Banjol is the well-known sandy beach Padova, idyllic for families with small children because of its shallow water and various entertainment facilities. Along the coast of both places stretches a 6-kilometre-long promenade which leads to the town of Rab. The promenade is ideal for morning bike rides and romantic evening walks at sunset. Right next to the promenade, there are numerous restaurants where you can enjoy the rich cuisine and seafood dishes.
