Nature park Lastovo islands is the youngest nature park in Croatia, consisting of a group of islands, islets, and rocks. The largest island is the beautiful island of Lastovo. The total area of the nature park is 53 km2 on land and another 143 km2 at sea. Lastovo archipelago is located in the south of the Adriatic, 15 kilometers south of the island of Korčula. Lastovo is one of the most forested islands in Croatia since more than 60% of the island's surface is covered by Mediterranean forests. The coast of the island is indented and the sea is rich in the underwater world. On Lastovo prevails mild Mediterranean climate with pleasant temperatures in summer and winter months. The island of Lastovo is also rich in historical heritage since it was inhabited for thousands of years from the ancient Illyrians, Greeks, Romans to Croats. Archaeological sites from the ancient Roman period were found in Ublim bay in the southwest of the island. The largest settlement on the island is Lastovo, a medieval settlement surrounded by hills. In Lastovo you can see beautiful houses from the 15th and 16th centuries with decorated chimneys ("fumari"). Special attractions on Lastovo are lighthouses, such as Struga lighthouse near Skrivena Luka, Sušac lighthouse on the island of Sušac, and Glavat lighthouse. The whole island is connected by cycling and walking paths. From the highest peak of the island (413 meters high Hum) you can enjoy attractive views of the island archipelago, the island of Korčula, Mljet, Pelješac and the open sea. The island is connected by regular catamaran and ferry line from Split, and in summer from Dubrovnik. Visit Lastovo island and enjoy true peace and untouched nature.
