If you are looking for peace and tranquility, the island of Ist is an ideal destination for you. Ist has only 9,7 km2 and it is located in North Dalmatia, Zadar county, close to the island of Škarda and the island of Molat. The island is small, and the only settlement on it bears the same name - Ist.

Island of Ist was mentioned for the first time in the 14th century as Ost, which is an Illyrian word with an unknown meaning. Croats continued tradition and culture imposed by the Romans. Today the island has less than 200 permanent inhabitants, who are mainly growing olives and grapes. As in many other parts of Dalmatia, the main source of income of locals is from tourism.

The island of Ist has a relaxing atmosphere since you are surrounded by crystal clear sea and nature. The beautiful sandy beach Ist is located in the center of village Ist, and it is surrounded by pine trees which makes it a perfect destination for family vacations. The village of Ist has only several shops, cafes, and restaurants.

Since Ist is a very small island, accommodation can only be found in private apartments, villas, holiday homes, and rooms. Also, motor vehicles are not allowed on the island so it is ideal for a getaway very it is possible to enjoy in tranquility and peacefulness. The nearest major port is Zadar, and it is well well connected by a daily catamaran line (Zadar - Molat - Ist).

Ist has a Mediterranean climate, characterized by dry and warm summers and mild and rainy but short winters. The average sea temperature in summer is around 24 °C what makes it ideal for summer holidays. The average air temperature in July and August is above 24 °C. Taking into consideration that it has many sunny days, Ist is an island worth visiting.
