The island is small, and the only settlement on it bears the same name - Ist.
Island of Ist was mentioned for the first time in the 14th century as Ost, which is an Illyrian word with an unknown meaning. Croats continued tradition and culture imposed by the Romans. Today the island has less than 200 permanent inhabitants, who are mainly growing olives and grapes. As in many other parts of Dalmatia, the main source of income of locals is from tourism.
The island of Ist has a relaxing atmosphere since you are surrounded by crystal clear sea and nature. The beautiful sandy beach Ist is located in the center of village Ist, and it is surrounded by pine trees which makes it a perfect destination for family vacations.
