Molunat info
Tourist info Molunat
Molunat is a small fishing and tourist town in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County in Croatia. It is located in the picturesque small bay in the far south of the Croatian municipality Konavle near the border with Montenegro. It is located 40 kilometers southeast of the city of Dubrovnik and 20 kilometers south of the airport and Cavtat. Its population is only about 200 permanent residents, who are mainly engaged in tourism, hospitality, and fishing. The town is named after the peninsula, which is named after the ancient Greek word "molos", which means port or bay. This leads us to the former ancient port of Mali and Veliki Molunat inside the bay, protected against bad weather and high waves, as evidenced by numerous archaeological traces in the sea and the remains of walls and fortifications. In the 15th century, the Dubrovnik Republic here again established a small town originally served as a shelter for people with fever and quarantine for ships coming from other Mediterranean ports. Over the following centuries, Molunat was part of the famous and highly developed Dubrovnik Republic, because of its position, it was the target of frequent pirate attacks.
