Tourist info Bakar
Bakar is a small town and port in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia. It is located in the deep Bakar bay surrounded by hills about 15 kilometers southeast of the city of Rijeka. The historical core of Bakar is divided into an older, upper city where is a settlement surrounded by city walls and the lower city, which consists of Zagrad and Primorje. The town was first mentioned in Vinodolski code from the 13th century and was named because of its proximity to former copper mine (Bakar = copper). Throughout history, it was the center of tunny-fishing in northern Adriatic and important maritime and commercial center with a large fleet of commercial sailing ships. Its reputation still owes to the production of the world-famous sparkling wine - Bakarska water. Today the inhabitants of Bakar are still engaged in agriculture and shipping, but slowly turning to tourism and offer accommodation in apartments and rooms inside their family homes. From historic sites and highlights, we recommend visiting the old town, city walls, castle, Renaissance building Roman house, and mysterious Turkey house that even today is a mystery who built it. From the beach, we recommend the beautiful pebble beach Melić which is located within the bay. This pebble beach is equipped with a shower and is ideal for families with small children, because of the shallow entrance to the sea and the greenery around it. Visit this popular seaside town and relax on your vacation in the small streets of the old town or on one of the beautiful beaches in the bay. Search for cheap private accommodation in Bakar.
