Kraljevica is a small town and municipality in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia. It is situated in a small bay at the entrance to the Bakar bay, about twenty kilometers south of the city of Rijeka. This area was like many coastal towns inhabited before the arrival of the Romans, as evidenced by numerous archaeological finds. The first written documents about Kraljevica are from the 15th century when the noble family Zrinski built the old city - Kaštel and the church of St. Nicholas in today's center. In the middle of the 17th century here the noble families Zrinski and Frankopan jointly build a castle New Kraljevica. In the mid-18th century, here was built a military port and shipyard by the decision of the Austrian Emperor Charles VI. In the early 20th century Kraljevica slowly was losing importance as a port and shipyard and began to develop tourism. The nearby town of Crikvenica is also a great base for exploring the wider Kvarner region.
