Sisak is the capital of Sisak-Moslavina County in Croatia. It is situated at the mouth of river Kupa in the river Sava, the fertile and marshy area of Pannonian plain. Sisak is among the oldest settlements of central Croatia and archaeological traces of its inhabitation are dating back to the 4th century BC. In the 1st century BC on the site of today's Sisak was established a Roman military camp - Siscija, which soon acquired the status of the city, and later the status of the capital province of Pannonia Savia. After the withdrawal of the Turks in the 18th and 19th centuries Sisak experiencing an economic and urban boom, and in the 20th century became one of the biggest industrial cities in Croatia thanks to the oil refinery, steel plant, river port, and the milling and bakery production. Recently Sisak is becoming more and more engaged in tourism, especially thanks to a protected wetland area Lonjsko polje and its rural wooden architecture, Sisak old town, Old bridge - the first wooden bridge on the river Kupa, and attractive city center along the Kupa and the archaeological park Siscia with the remains of Roman architecture. There are attractive hunting grounds for hunters in the surrounding forests of Petrova and Zrinska Gora.
