Baška is a popular tourist town and municipality in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar county in Croatia. It is located in the southeast of the island Krk in a large natural bay surrounded by vineyards, olive groves, and pine trees. Baška was first mentioned in the 13th century under the name Castelum Besca, though this area has always been inhabited by Illyrian tribes, and the ancient Romans after them. During the Middle Ages, this area was managed by Frankopan dukes and later came under the rule of the Venetians. In that time, the inhabitants were mainly engaged in agriculture particularly olive oil and wine production in a fertile valley in the hinterland. At the beginning of the 20th century, tourism begins developing thanks to large pebble beaches, which today attracts guests from all over the world.
