Tourist info Bale

Bale The picturesque medieval town of Bale is a small town and the center of the municipality on the west coast of Istria between the cities of Rovinj and Pula. It is 13 km from Rovinj and 20 km from Pula. It is located on top of a 140-meter-high hill, and it is only 5 kilometers from the sea. Bale has been inhabited since the Bronze Age, and the first historical record is from the 10th century when it is mentioned as a defensive fortress of Castrum Vallis. In the 15th century, the Gothic-Renaissance castle of the noble families Sardo and Bembo was built, and the present-day town of Bale developed around it, with narrow stone streets and stone houses, and exceptionally well-preserved traditional Istrian architecture and atmosphere. The Soardo Bembo Palace remains the largest building in Bale to this day. Today, Bale is home to around 1,000 residents who are mainly engaged in tourism and service activities. During the summer, the place abounds with numerous cultural and entertainment events such as the Castrum Vallis exhibition, the Last Minute Open Jazz Festival, the folk festival "Baljanska noć" and many others. Visiting the place is like going back in time, and time seems to stand still. Ideal for all those visitors who want to experience a quieter and slower way of life like it used to be in past times. Welcome to Bale and Istria!
