Skradin is a small town in the Šibenik-Knin county Croatia, with a population around 4,000 inhabitants. It is located in a beautiful canyon, at the mouth of the river Krka in Prokljan lake 17 kilometers from the city of Šibenik. Due to its favorable geographical position, fertile land and abundance of freshwater this area have almost 6000 years-long history of settlement. There was once an Illyrian settlement (Scardona) and was the capital of the Liburnians. It later became an important Roman administrative and military center of the region until it was destroyed during the migration period, and he was in the 9th century settled by Croats. In the Middle Ages, it was one of the seats of the powerful Croatian noble family Bribir-Šubić. Over time it has lost its importance as a center of the region, which was moved to the nearby Šibenik. Today, however, it has become a very famous tourist destination of Šibenik riviera, thanks to its natural beauty and the Krka river.

Here is one of the entrances to the Krka National Park, where you can enjoy a range of waterfalls and travertine barriers, the biggest of which Skradinski Buk is named after Skradin. Skradin is known for its marina, which is often visited by the world's most famous people like Bill Gates. Skradin is characterized by narrow cobbled streets, passages, and stairs. The entire old town is a protected monument and is rich with charming restaurants and coffee bars. We recommend you walk up the hill above Skradin where you can visit the medieval fortress Turina, built by governor Pavle Šubić in the 14th century, from where you can enjoy the beautiful panoramic view. Along with the fortress, probably the most recognizable symbol of Skradin is the clock tower (Campanile) from 1872. Because of its weight, it was built on the nearby cliff rather than next to the church. Learn more at the official Skradin tourism website.
