Marčana Marčana is a small town in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is situated on the southern part of the Istrian peninsula, a few kilometers from the sea and about 15 kilometers from the town of Pula. Marčana is also the center of the municipality to which belong 22 surrounding smaller villages and hamlets. The whole municipality has a population of 4,000 inhabitants who are mostly engaged in agriculture, service industries, and tourism. The settlement was first mentioned in the 13th century when it belonged to the Venetian Republic. It remained part of the Venetian Republic until the end of the 18th century, and from early 19th century it belonged to the Austrian Empire. After the end of the Second World War, Marčana has finally become part of Croatia. The whole municipality of Marčana is developing along with the development of tourism. Although it has developed tourism, this area of 36 kilometers of coastline is the least urbanized coastal area in Istria with crystal clear blue sea and lush greenery in the background.
