Svetvinčenat (Savičenta or San Vincenti) is a picturesque small town and municipality in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is located in the interior of the southern part of Istria, about halfway between Pula and Rovinj. Svetvinčenat is named after the Holy Vincent and the eponymous Benedictine abbey, around which the town was gradually developed. It was first mentioned in the 10th century when it was part of the properties of the Poreč bishops. Until the late 18th century it was under the direction of Venice and Venetian noble families. The most significant was the family Crimani di San Luca, which lived here in the late 16th century. They raised a large castle in the center of the main square, popular Placa. Grimani castle is one of the most beautiful and best-preserved Venetian buildings of that time in Istria. Grimani castle consists of 3 towers and large mansions and high walls that connect them.
