Tourist info Raša
Raša is a small town and municipality in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is located on the eastern side of the Istrian peninsula in the fertile valley of river Raša, few kilometers away from the sea. Raša is the seat of the municipality, which has 23 smaller towns and villages. The whole municipality has about 3,000 inhabitants, who are mainly engaged in agriculture, fishing, and more recently in tourism. Raša is the youngest town in Istria, which was built in 1937 by Italian authorities, for the needs of workers and miners of nearby coal mines. Mining activity in this area dates back to the 17th century and Venetian administration. The production of coal reached its peak in 1942 when it produced more than one million tons of coal. Once the mining was the main industry, but today Raša is turning to tourism and ecological agriculture. Visitors wishing to explore the wider area will also find excellent options for accommodation in Labin, a charming hilltop town nearby.
