It was first mentioned in the 10th century as Castrum Pisinum or Pazin fortress which belonged to the former Poreč diocese. In the 14th century was established Pazin county, which was ruled by many different feudal lords over the next centuries. After the Second World War, Pazin, like the whole region of Istra has finally been annexed to Croatia.
