Slavonski Brod is the capital of Brod-Posavina county in Croatia. According to the size and importance, it is the second most important town in Slavonia just behind Osijek. It is located on the north bank of the Sava river, on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina and it has more than 60,000 residents. It is an important traffic junction, where are passing important international roads, rail and river routes linking Western and Southeast Europe. The settlements in this part of Croatia along the Sava River was inhabited in prehistoric times, and 2,000 years ago there was an old Roman settlement called Marsonia on the site of today's Slavonski Brod. Today Slavonski Brod is a modern city full of vibrancy, and lately, the focus is on the development of tourism and service industries. It is voted the most beautiful city in Croatia, on the selection of the Croatian Tourist Board in 2009.

Sights of Slavonski Brod

There is a heritage site — Brod Fortress from the 18th century, which is the largest and most important fortification monument in Continental Croatia. We recommend visiting the home of Ivana Brlić Mažuranić, a world-famed writer for children, on the main square, one of the largest and most beautiful in Croatia.
