Ston Coat of Arms

Ston is a medieval town and municipality in the Dubrovnik-Neretva County, located in the south of the Peljesac peninsula. Ston has a rich history that goes back as far as the fourteenth century. It is known as the town with the longest stone wall in Europe (5.5 km), with narrow quiet cobblestone streets and stately old stone houses. Its development and rich history owe to the oldest active salt pans in the world — salt pans which kept a valuable tradition and natural way of producing a salt that has not changed since ancient times. Ston is widely known for the cultivation of shellfish: oysters and mussels since Roman times, and the oysters from Ston disseminated the glory of this region as a certified natural aphrodisiac. If you are also planning to visit nearby Dubrovnik, this area offers an exceptionally rich tourist experience.
