Trpanj is a small town and the center of the eponymous municipality in Dubrovnik-Neretva County. Trpanj is situated in the northwest of the Peljesac peninsula at the foot of high hills Gradina and Sveti Rok where they found pieces of prehistoric pottery that indicate that there was a prehistoric settlement and that from ancient times people inhabited this area of the peninsula of Peljesac. Trpanj was under Roman rule, and then from the 14th century under the Republic of Dubrovnik and the administration of the famous noble family Gundulic-Gondola.
