The Kornati islands are a very indented group of islands in central Dalmatia, in Šibenik-Knin county in Croatia.
It consists of as many as 89 islands, islets, and reefs with a total area of 220 km2.
1980, the entire area was declared a national park due to the exceptional natural beauty and richness of the underwater world and the diversity of fish species.
Only 1/4 of the park is land, while the remaining 3/4 of the park makes sea surface, where fishing is prohibited.
The vertical cliffs of the westernmost of the Kornati islands facing the open sea are the most popular phenomenon of this park because they rise vertically up to 50 meters.
The National Park is open year-round and you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the natural marine environment, fresh air, and clean sea.
The whole area is a real mecca for sailors, but also for tourists who come on day trips.
The archipelago is ideal for the real Robinson-like adventure and Robinson tourism.
The entire land area of the park is privately owned, mostly by residents of Murter, which was using the islands in the past for grazing herds of sheep and goats.
Today, though permanently uninhabited, the Kornati islands are offering interesting accommodation for Robinson tourism, and there are as many as 25 restaurants and taverns, which offer local cuisine that mostly includes seafood dishes (fish and crabs) and domestic lamb from the Kornati islands.
The islands are an ideal place for those who want to spend their vacation in a secluded place, away from people in a true Mediterranean paradise, surrounded by unspoiled nature and clear sea.
Here you can try out various water sports (sailing, sports and recreational fishing, diving
)
