Tourist info Ugljan - Ugljan
Ugljan is a small settlement in Zadar County. It is situated on the far north of the island of Ugljan, 11 kilometers north of the village of Preko which is the center of the municipality. Ugljan includes 9 villages: Čeprljanda, Lučino Selo, Batalaža, Sušica, Gornje Selo, Muline, Guduće, Fortoština, Varoš, and several beautiful coves: Ćinta, Mostir and Luka in Muline. The name of the place and the Ugljan island is most probably derived from the name "ulje" - olive oil due to the intensive production of olive oil. In Ugljan there are more than 1000 inhabitants, mainly engaged in tourism, fisheries, and agriculture (olive growing, grapevine and figs). The autochthonous vegetation (oak, pine and cypress trees) has been replaced by typical Mediterranean cultures so from 60% to 70% of the island's surface occupy olive groves and figs. The island of Ugljan is connected to the nearby Zadar by a very frequent ferry line, which since 2006 runs even at night.
