The island of Mljet is the greenest and, according to many, the most beautiful island in the Adriatic. What makes it unique is the Mljet National Park which is located on the northwest of the island. The majority of the island is covered by forests of pine trees and oak why it is also known as the green island.

Mljet is a quite remote island, however, it has been inhabited for more than 4000 years. Today, the island has around 1,000 permanent inhabitants. The largest settlements on the island are Babino Polje, Sobra, Goveđari, Pomena, and Polače.

National park Mljet is one of the most beautiful national parks in Croatia. It covers an area of around 54 km2 of protected sea belt, islets, cliffs, land, dense pine forests, islets, rocks, and untouched nature. The park has natural phenomenons Veliko lake and Malo lake - two saltwater lakes in the karst. In the middle of Veliko lake is St. Mary, a small island with a church and Benedictine monastery from the 12th century.

Mljet offers a variety of different activities for its guests including cycling, walking, hiking, canoe ride, kayak ride, diving, speleology, and many others. Climb to the highest peak of the island, 514 meters high Veliki Grad from which you can enjoy spectacular views of Mljet and nearby islands. The best beaches on the island of Mljet are pebble beach Sutmiholjska, Blace beach (Limuni), and sandy Saplunara beach. The famous huge egg-shaped Odysseus cave is located on the south side of the island. This karst hole (pit) is named after Odysseus, a Greek legend who, according to the legend, survived a shipwreck near the Odysseus cave on Mljet.

Mljet is a remote island and it can be reached by ferry from Prapratno (peninsula of Pelješac) or by boat line from Split or Dubrovnik. The island of Mljet is not overdeveloped in terms of tourism so accommodation can mainly be found in private apartments, holiday homes, and rooms.
