Vis - Vis Coat of Arms

Vis is a town and seat of the municipality on the island of Vis in the Adriatic in southern Croatia. Its population is nearly 2000 inhabitants and administratively belongs to the Split-Dalmatia county. It is located in a relatively large and sheltered bay of Sveti Juraj, on the northeastern side of the island facing the island of Hvar and Dalmatian mainland. The climate of the island of Vis is very favorable with long warm to hot summers and very mild winters and is one of the warmest parts of the whole Republic of Croatia. Such a favorable climate promotes lush growth of tropical and Mediterranean plants, including palm trees, carob, olives, grapes, and lemons. Due to its highly preserved nature, the whole island of Vis is designated as one of the ten most environmentally preserved Mediterranean islands by World Organization for Environmental Protection.
