Kornati Info
The Kornati islands are one of the most beautiful national parks in Croatia. It consists of a group of 89 islands, reefs, and islets which are situated in central Dalmatia (Šibenik-Knin county). The Kornati archipelago are a true Mediterranean paradise, an ideal place for those looking for a secluded place, far away from the city hustle, surrounded by crystal clear sea and unspoiled nature. The total area of the islands is around 220 km2.
The Kornati became a national park in 1980 because of its exceptional untouched nature, diversity of marine animals, and rich underwater world. The main attraction of the national park are the vertical cliffs up to 50 meters high on the west part of the island. The Kornati islands are very popular among sailors but also for tourists who are visiting them on day trips (there are organized trips from most places in the north and central Dalmatia to Kornati islands).
This beautiful national park has so many things to offer for active holidays - from walking, hiking, diving, various water sports (fishing, sailing, etc), and wildlife watching. The islands have many hills which can be reached without bigger problems, however, it is necessary to be careful especially during the strong sun. The islands have more than 20 restaurants and taverns in which you can try delicious and fresh seafood dishes (crabs, lobsters, and fish) as well as domestic lamb. An interesting fact is that the land on the Kornati is privately owned, mainly by residents of the island of Murter.
The Kornati can be reached by boat (rented or owned by you) or by organized daily boat tours. They are uninhabited, so the accommodation offer is limited to private apartments, Robinson tourism, holiday homes, and private camps. Organized day trips by boat to the Kornati usually include the entrance fee to the national park and lunch.
