Buzet is a picturesque small town in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is located in the Mirna valley in the north of the Istrian peninsula near the border with Slovenia. It has about 6,000 inhabitants and it is divided into two parts. The old town of Buzet is located at 150 m high hill above the Mirna river valley, while the newer part of town, called Fontana, is located in a fertile valley at the foot of the hill. Due to the favorable climate and very fertile land, this area has been inhabited since ancient times, as evidenced by numerous archaeological findings from the surrounding caves. There are numerous traces of Illyrians and Romans and the Venetian Republic, which ruled this area until the end of the 18th century. Today, Buzet is a modern small town where besides agriculture and viticulture are developed various crafts and small businesses. If you also plan to visit nearby Pazin, the two towns make for an excellent combined trip.
Lovers of active holidays and nature can enjoy in bike trails and hiking trails on nearby Čićarija mountain, horseback riding and free climbing. The Mirna river and the surrounding forests offer beautiful landscapes ideal for walks and outdoor recreation.
