National park Brijuni

Fažana

The Brijuni islands are one of the most visited national parks in Croatia. The Brijuni islands were declared a national park in 1983. The Brijuni islands consist of 14 islands, out of which the most famous are the island of Veliki Brijun and island of Mali Brijun. The closest place on the mainland is Fažana, from which boats depart to Brijuni several times a day. Besides the natural beauties, there are numerous cultural monuments and buildings on Brijuni, of which the most famous are the Roman countryside castle with spas (from the 1st century AD), the temple of Venus and St. Mary's basilica (from the 5th century AD). Interestingly, the Brijuni islands have been inhabited since the third millennium BC. Brijuni are also known for a safari park where, among other things, you can see exotic animals such as giraffes, elephants, and zebras. Brijuni are also known because they were the summer residence of former Yugoslav president Joseph Broz Tito, who hosted numerous guests in Brijuni, including Queen Elizabeth II, Elizabeth Taylor, and Indira Gandhi. There are various options for activities, from cycling, swimming, walking to golf.

The biggest attraction of the place is certainly nearby Brijuni National Park, which consists of 14 beautiful green islands. Brijuni is a unique harmony of nature, human, animal and plant life. After you arrive at Brijuni, a tourist train will take you through the natural beauty of the island, safari park, and historical monuments - Byzantine Castrum and Roman residential villa. Fažana and Valbandon abound beautiful and well-kept pebbles beaches, which are ideal for families with children thanks to the very clear seawater.
