The Lim channel

Rovinj

Lim channel (also Lim bay or Lim fjord) is a bay just over 10 kilometers long, located in the western part of Istria, between Rovinj and Vrsar. The Lim channel is extremely popular for its enchanting nature. The water in the Lim channel is a mixture of saltwater and freshwater from the Pazinčica river, and it is ideal for growing shellfish and fish. The channel is sheltered by hills more than 100 meters high. In some parts, the channel is up to 30 meters deep and 60 meters wide. The Lim channel is part of Lim Draga stretching 35 kilometers into the interior of Istria (to Pazin). Near the channel is Romuald's cave where, according to the evidence found, religious ceremonies were held in the 11th century. Besides the cave, the Lim channel offers numerous opportunities for active holidays from alpine climbing, excursion boats, hiking to mountain biking.

Church of St. Euphemia

Rovinj

The symbol of the city of Rovinj, the church of St. Euphemia is situated on the top of a hill in the old town. At the site of today's St. Euphemia's church was a small church of St. George, originally built in the 7th century. Because of the many pilgrims who came to see the sarcophagus of St. Euphemia, church authorities decided to build a larger church in the 10th century. The present-day church of St. Euphemia was built between 1725 and 1736 in the Baroque-Venetian style. The greatest value of the church is the sarcophagus of the Christian martyr St. Euphemia, who was martyred and killed during the reign of Emperor Diocletian. It is believed that the sarcophagus of the patron saint of the city was brought to Rovinj around 800 AD. In addition to peace and tranquility, the surroundings of the church offer attractive views of Rovinj, the Adriatic sea and nearby islands - the island of St. Catherine and the island of St. Andrew.

The old town is also known for its attractive colorful houses that adorn numerous tourist postcards. Originally, the old town was built on an island which was connected to the mainland in 1763. From the top of the hill, you can enjoy beautiful views of the sea and the nearby islands.
