Rovinj is a famous tourist city in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is located on the west coast of Istria near the nature reserve, Lim bay. The town of Rovinj has about 15,000 residents and encompasses Rovinj village, which is seven kilometers away. It was first mentioned in the 7th century under the name Castrum Rubini. According to numerous archaeological findings from this area, it has been inhabited since prehistoric times when here lived ancient Histri, and after them, Romans. From the 13th century, Rovinj was under Venetian rule under which it remained until the 18th century. Later the Austrian, French and Italian authorities were ruling the city, and after the Second World War, it belonged to the former Yugoslavia and Croatia. Today Rovinj is a modern tourist center with rich tourist offering, it has several hotel complexes and auto camps, as well as numerous high-quality and affordable apartments, rooms and holiday homes as part of private family accommodation.
