Lopar is a popular tourist town and seat of the municipality in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia. It is located on the northern tip of the island of Rab in a large valley surrounded by two large and many smaller bays. Lopar has about 1,200 inhabitants, and from the town of Rab it is 12 kilometres away. It is very well connected with the island of Krk with the ferry line Valbiska — Lopar, and with the second ferry line Mišnjak — Stinica which connects the island of Rab with the mainland. Lopar has a long history due to very favourable microclimate features and highly fertile land in the valley, as evidenced by the remains of ancient Greek military fortifications from the 4th century BC. Later, the Romans settled here, and from the 9th century Croats. Throughout history, the main occupation was agriculture, which is recently slowly giving way to tourism.
Today Lopar is a modern tourist place with several hotel complexes and beautiful kilometres-long sandy beaches that are the trademark of the place. The most famous of them is the almost 2-kilometre-long sandy Paradise Beach, which boasts a Blue Flag — an international symbol of quality and preservation of the sea and the environment. Here are located numerous restaurants and entertainment and recreational facilities, ideal for a pleasant family holiday.
