Lopar is a popular tourist town and seat of the municipality in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia.
It is located on the northern tip of the island of Rab in a large valley surrounded by two large and many smaller bays.
Lopar has about 1200 inhabitants, and from the town of Rab is 12 kilometers away.
It is very well connected with the island of Krk with ferry line Valbiska - Lopar, and with second ferry line Mišnjak - Stinica is connected with the mainland.
Lopar has a long history due to very favorable microclimate features and highly fertile land in the valley, as evidenced by the remains of ancient Greek military fortifications from the 4th century BC.
Later, the Romans settled here, and from the 9th century Croats.
Throughout history, the main occupation was agriculture, which is recently slowly giving in to tourism.
