Plavo lake or Modro lake (Blue lake) is considered as one of the most beautiful karst lakes in this part of Europe. Plavo lake is located near the city of Imotski, not far from the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. The depth of water depends on the season, and it can range from 0 meters when the lake dries up to a depth of 105 meters. When the lake dries at the bottom of the lake the locals play football. Similar to Crveno lake, Plavo lake was probably formed by the collapse of the upper part of a huge cave. World phenomenon Crveno lake (Red lake) is a karst sinkhole or a karst lake near the city of Imotski. Crveno lake is known for its extremely steep cliffs that surround it, reaching more than 240 meters above water level. The total depth of the lake is 528 meters, while the deepest point of the lake is 6 meters below sea level. The lake was named after the reddish color of the cliffs, which are rich in iron oxides. Crveno lake is also known for its numerous caves. Because of the steep cliffs, it is impossible to access the lake without accompaniment by expert personnel. According to legend, in the ancient past, there were Gavan’s castle above the lake, which, due to Gavan's greed collapsed into the ground. Check the depth of the lake by throwing a stone into it. Imotski Imotski is a small and picturesque town in the Split-Dalmatia County. It is situated in the Dalmatian hinterland behind the mountain of Biokovo along the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. About 10,000 people live in Imotski, mainly engaged in the cultivation of kiwi, olives, grapevines, figs, and the production of prosciutto. It is located at an altitude of 260 meters where Imotsko field is located, up to 440 meters where the town of Imotski is located. It has a very pleasant Mediterranean climate due to the proximity of the Adriatic sea and Makarska riviera which are easily accessible due to tunnel through Biokovo mountain. Near Imotski, there are two pearls of nature Crveno lake and Modro lake. Modro lake is perfect for swimming, but sometimes during very hot summers is known to be completely dry. Above the lake lies the 10th century Topana fortress, which offers a breathtaking view of the entire Imotski area. Crveno lake is named after the red color of the rocks surrounding it. It is a specific lake because its minimum depth is 233 meters and during high water level, depth is over 300 meters, making it one of the deepest karstic lakes in the world. The center of Imotski is full of stone houses, streets, and stairs, connecting the old and newer parts of the city. Recently, tourism has been developed thanks to the vicinity of the famous Makarska riviera and Omiš riviera.
