Imotski info

Tourist info Imotski

Imotski is a small and picturesque town in the Split-Dalmatia County. It is situated in the Dalmatian hinterland behind the mountain of Biokovo along the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina. About 10,000 people live in Imotski, mainly engaged in the cultivation of kiwi, olives, grapevines, figs, and the production of prosciutto. It is located at an altitude of 260 meters where Imotsko field is located, up to 440 meters where the town of Imotski is located. It has a very pleasant Mediterranean climate due to the proximity of the Adriatic sea and Makarska riviera, which are easily accessible — visitors staying in Split can also reach Imotski with ease. Recently, tourism has been developed thanks to the vicinity of the famous Makarska riviera and Omiš riviera.

Nature and Lakes of Imotski

Near Imotski, there are two pearls of nature — Crveno lake and Modro lake. Modro lake is perfect for swimming, but sometimes during very hot summers is known to be completely dry. Above the lake lies the 10th century Topana fortress, which offers a breathtaking view of the entire Imotski area. Crveno lake is named after the red color of the rocks surrounding it. It is a specific lake because its minimum depth is 233 meters and during high water level, depth is over 300 meters, making it one of the deepest karstic lakes in the world. The center of Imotski is full of stone houses, streets, and stairs, connecting the old and newer parts of the city. Discover more about the natural wonders of the region at Visit Imota, the official tourism website.
