In the southernmost part of Makarska Riviera, at the foot of Biokovo mountain, there is a small tourist town called Živogošće. It consists of three smaller, interconnected village Porat, Mala Duba, and Blato, located along the Adriatic coast. It is located only 20 km from Makarska, 80 km from Split and 120 km from Dubrovnik. As a settlement, Živogošće was first mentioned in the mid 13th century. Franciscan monastery, founded in the 17th century, was the next two centuries the center of cultural and spiritual life, with a rich library and valuable artwork.
