In the southernmost part of Makarska Riviera, at the foot of Biokovo mountain, there is a small tourist town called Živogošće. It consists of three smaller, interconnected villages Porat, Mala Duba, and Blato, located along the Adriatic coast. It is located only 20 km from Makarska, 80 km from Split and 120 km from Dubrovnik. As a settlement, Živogošće was first mentioned in the mid 13th century. The Franciscan monastery, founded in the 17th century, was for the next two centuries the center of cultural and spiritual life, with a rich library and valuable artwork. During the last forty years, Živogošće has been rapidly developing thanks to tourism and the construction of private houses where friendly hosts began renting apartments and rooms. The Mediterranean vegetation, mountains, sea, olive groves, and pine forests create an ideal summer atmosphere in which guests can relax to the maximum and forget about all their worries.
The main attraction of Živogošće is 6 km of interconnected pebble beaches, clean and unpolluted sea, all situated at the foot of the mountain with the highest peak Sutvid at 1155 meters above sea level.
