Tourist info Vir
Vir is a tiny island on the Croatian coast of the Adriatic Sea in the county of Zadar in Croatia. Its area is 22 km² and it is located 25 km north of the city of Zadar. The island is connected to the mainland with a bridge built in the last century. The main town on the island, the town of Vir, is also the centre of the municipality and home to about 1,500 inhabitants. On the island, there are two smaller places, Lozice and Torovi. In historical documents, Vir was first mentioned in the 11th century in the charter of King Petar Krešimir IV, in which the island is called Ueru (Vera) — an ancient Mediterranean word for pasture. The position of the island of Vir in the centre of the Adriatic, its connection to the mainland, jagged coastline and numerous bays and beaches, and a very pleasant and healthy Mediterranean climate attract many visitors and tourists who want to spend a memorable holiday.
