Jastrebarsko is a town in central Croatia (Zagreb County), located at the foot of the Žumberak mountain and Samoborsko mountain, halfway between Zagreb and Karlovac. The town of Jastrebarsko was named after the hawks, and in German-language sources, it is also called Jaska, which is the popular name of this town. The city was first mentioned in the 13th century in a document of Ban Stjepan, as a center of trade and court. The life and development of the city were most influenced by the noble Erdödy family who had large estates in this area from the 16th to the 19th century. The castle of the Erdödy family in the city park in the center of Jastrebarsko is the oldest building in the city and one of the biggest tourist attractions. Today in the area of the town of Jastrebarsko live about 16,000 inhabitants in about 60 settlements. Jastrebarsko and its surroundings are a favorite picnic spot because of the beautiful landscapes, nature park Žumberak - Samoborsko mountains, cultural-historical monuments, famous wines, and gourmet specialties. Surrounded by sunny wine-growing hills, which are home to numerous family farms, picnic areas, forests, numerous streams, hiking, and biking trails attract more and more tourists and guests looking for a holiday in nature and in harmony with nature.
