Novi Vinodolski is a tourist town in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in Croatia. It is situated on the slopes of a steep hill on the coast between Crikvenica and Senj. From the city of Rijeka it is 40 kilometers away and from the airport on the island of Krk only 30 kilometers away. It was first mentioned in written historical documents in the Vinodol Code from the 13th century. Then the entire metropolitan area belonged to the old Croatian aristocratic family Frankopan. In the late 19th century began the tourist era of Novi Vinodolski when several wooden platforms for swimming were built, but soon after emerged the first hotel and the city developed into an attractive sanatorium and resort for Austrian, Hungarian and Czech guests. Today, besides agriculture and viticulture, the locals are mainly engaged in tourism and provide services of private accommodation in apartments and rooms inside their family homes.
The city is full of pebble beaches that are very well maintained and are ideal for families with children. The sea is very clean, and by choosing accommodation next to the sea you can enjoy the crystal-clear Adriatic at the finest beaches in Novi Vinodolski. Other than beach and sun, Novi Vinodolski offers plenty of content from sports and entertainment to the hinterland which is rich in well-maintained hiking and biking trails.
Thanks to its long history and because it was once the cultural and political center of the former Vinodol principality, the town has preserved many historical monuments. The rich cultural heritage includes: walls of the Roman fort Lopsica, remains of Paulist friars' monastery, Frankopan castle with a tower, cathedral, Church of St. Trinity and St. Marina on the same island, house of brothers Mažuranić, reading room and library from 1845, museum, City Gallery Turnac, and many others.
