Sveti Ivan Zelina is a small town and the seat of a municipality in Zagreb County, located 27 kilometers northeast of the city of Zagreb. Zelina is an old cultural and economic center of the Croatian Prigorje, and consists of as many as 62 smaller settlements with a total of about 16,000 inhabitants. It is located on the southern slopes of Medvednica along the Lonja River valley and surrounded by the idyllic Prigorje hills and numerous vineyards. It was built around the church of St. John the Baptist, after which it was named. It is celebrated on June 24th, and then the St. John's Days, the main cultural event of the city, are traditionally held. Among the tourist attractions, we highlight the cultural heritage monument Zelingrad - a medieval fortress on the slopes of Medvednica, located 5 kilometers from the city itself.
