Tourist info Grožnjan
Grožnjan (Grisignana) is a picturesque small village in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is located above the Mirna valley, on the top of the 228-meter high hill, only fifteen kilometers from the sea. It was first mentioned in the 12th century, when it belonged to the Patriarch of Aquileia, and later to Venice, under which it remained until the late 18th century. Grožnjan experienced rapid economic growth in the 19th and early 20th century under Austrian rule when the railway was built, that connected Poreč with Trieste. Railway contributed to the development of trade of agricultural products. Today, unfortunately, there is no more railway, and residents of Grožnjan are farmers and work in tourism and offer accommodation in apartments, rooms and holiday homes within their private family houses. Besides, during summer in Grožnjan are held different festivals - international film school, the jazz festival in July, the festival Ex tempore in September, which gathers a multitude of artists, and the whole place becomes one big exhibition.
