Tourist info Umag
Umag is a charming tourist town in the county of Istria in Croatia. It is located on the far north-western coast of Istria near the border with Slovenia. It has a long and interesting history, and first of its natural beauty was discovered by Roman nobles who built here their summer residences. Gradually it got contours and all the characteristics of a city. In the 13th century, it fell under the administration of the Venetian Republic, which ruled the city until its decline in the late 18th century. From this period have been preserved stone houses of the old town, parts of walls and towers, and Renaissance and Baroque buildings and churches. Today Umag is a modern tourist center of north-western Istria which has about 14,000 residents. If you enjoy exploring the Istrian coast, be sure to also visit nearby Poreč.
