Primošten info
Tourist info Primošten
Primošten is one of the most popular tourist resorts in Dalmatia and one of the most picturesque small towns on the Adriatic. It is located only 27 km south of Šibenik and about 33 km north of the town of Trogir. The old part of the town lies on a small island which was in the Middle Ages connected to the mainland by a bridge. The bridge was later replaced by an embankment after there was no more Turkish threat, so Primošten became a peninsula. The economy is based on farming, viticulture, olive growing, fishing, and tourism, and most residents offer quality private accommodation by the sea in apartments and rooms inside their private homes.
The old town and the church of St. George
The parish church of St. George, erected on top of the peninsula in the 15th century, was thoroughly reconstructed in 1760 and offers a beautiful panoramic view of the open sea and distant islands. It keeps the icon of the Blessed Virgin Mary with silver adornments and St. Mary with St. Luke and George, a work by Master Cusi from 1719. The town has preserved its Mediterranean atmosphere and all the characteristics of a medieval Dalmatian fishing village which is evident in its narrow stone streets and old stone houses in the old town on the peninsula. On the second peninsula Raduča, north of the old city, is the Hotel Zora with a sports complex and a dense pine forest.
Beaches in Primošten
Primošten is renowned for its beautiful pebble beaches stretching along the entire riviera. The largest and most visited beach is Velika Raduča, ideal for a family holiday thanks to its shallow and crystal-clear water framed by dense pine woods. The smaller section, Mala Raduča, has been named one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in Croatia — turquoise water, white pebbles and pine trees make it one of the most photogenic spots on the Adriatic. Nearby you will also find smaller coves such as Huljina and Šibenska, perfect for snorkelling and diving, while the shaded shoreline offers plenty of spots to relax even on the hottest summer days.
Tourist attractions in Primošten
Primošten is world-famous for its huge and beautiful Babić vineyards — a photo of the Primošten vineyards hangs in the UN headquarters in New York, representing the hard work of generations of local farmers. Strolling through the narrow cobblestone streets of the old town with views of the open sea is an unforgettable experience, and the church of St. George at the top of the peninsula offers one of the finest panoramas on the entire Adriatic coast. The town is also known for its authentic galleries in old Dalmatian stone houses, its traditional fishing harbour, and a lively weekly market with fresh local produce. The Tourist Board organises guided tours and excursions — find all details at the official Primošten Tourist Board website.
Sports, gastronomy and summer events
There are numerous possibilities for sport and recreation: tennis, table tennis, bowling, beach volleyball, sailing, and diving. Guests can use the 50 restaurants and taverns where they can find Dalmatian specialties or the famous Primošten red wine Babić. During the summer months various events are held in Primošten such as the Primošten carnival, fisherman's nights and folklore evenings.
