Pakoštane is a peaceful little town in the county of Zadar in Croatia. It is located on the coast about halfway between Zadar and Šibenik, and it is home to almost 3,000 inhabitants. It has a unique position because it is situated on a narrow coastal belt between the Adriatic sea and Vrana lake. Historical sources mention a place in the 15th century, and during the Croatian-Hungarian kings, it was called Pakošene, and later occur names Pachoschiane, Pacoschane, and islanders call it Pakošćane to Cakavian pronunciation. Most of the population lives mainly from tourism and they offer services of private accommodation in apartments or rooms. Agriculture and the cultivation of olive trees, grapevines, sheep, and donkeys are mostly kept in the hinterland. In Pakoštane there are several beaches that are very close to the center of town and most are ideal for families with children.
