Tourist info Pakoštane
Pakoštane is a peaceful little town in the county of Zadar in Croatia. It is located on the coast about halfway between Zadar and Šibenik, and it is home to almost 3,000 inhabitants. It has a unique position because it is situated on a narrow coastal belt between the Adriatic sea and Vrana lake. Historical sources mention a place in the 15th century, and during the Croatian-Hungarian kings, it was called Pakošene, and later occur names Pachoschiane, Pacoschane, and islanders call it Pakošćane to Cakavian pronunciation. Most of the population lives mainly from tourism and they offer services of private accommodation in apartments or rooms. Agriculture and the cultivation of olive trees, grapevines, sheep, and donkeys are mostly kept in the hinterland. In Pakoštane there are several beaches that are very close to the center of town and most are ideal for families with children. Some of the beaches are rich in the sand on the shore and under the sea, while others are paved and gravel and surrounded with pine trees. We recommend visiting the Nature Park Vrana Lake, the largest freshwater lake in Croatia with very rich flora and fauna. Above the lake is a lookout Kamenjak from which there is a beautiful panoramic view of the entire Vrana lake, Pakoštane archipelago, and the Kornati islands. Few places in the world on such a small area is cross-linked with so much diversity and natural beauty. This is best invitation to all visitors and curious guests.
