Pirovac is a lively tourist place and municipality in the far north of the Šibenik-Knin county in Croatia. It is located 26 kilometers north of the town of Šibenik and in it lives almost 2000 inhabitants. It is situated in a deep natural bay, which is 12 km carved deep into the mainland. It makes a truly Mediterranean atmosphere in which the intoxicating scents of lavender, rosemary and olive trees are mixed with pure sea air. The southern part of the bay of Pirovac is Makirina natural beach with healing mud and silt. Quality and quantity of this site with curative mud are one of the richest in Croatia. The first historical mention of Pirovac was in 1298, titled Zlosela. At the time, the place belonged to the old Croatian aristocratic family Šubić, and later became the property of the Šibenik Diocese and some noblemen from Šibenik.
